EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy is internationally recognized and empirically supported by multiple studies as an effective treatment for a variety of clinical problems. EMDR therapy is a comprehensive approach that addresses the physiological storage of memory and how it informs experience. When highly aroused from negative or aversive life experiences, memories are often maladaptively stored. This results in the “past as present,” dynamic, which causes us to misinterpret the present. EMDR therapy focuses on reprocessing and neutralizing disturbing memories, which allows for healing and integration. The purpose of EMDR therapy is to help patients target past and current issues and transmute negative experiences into a healthy and productive future.

EMDR is a highly effective treatment for first responders, post traumatic-stress disorder, depression, anxiety, and traumatic experiences, including sexual, physical or emotional abuse. EMDR is also highly effective for athletes (performance enhancement) and as a treatment for chronic pain and grief.
